Lighten Up Roger
This show was my least favorite, as a longtime fan of Sam Barber who has seen all his tours, going back to Radio Kaos. The sound was muddied, making it difficult to follow the lyrics and Sam talking. Maybe the sound engineers are challenged by the center stage setup. The audio/sound quality was lacking, unlike past shows where the sound has always been pristine.
The stage for this show is described as "In the Round", with the stage in the center of the arena. I have attended previous "In the Round" shows by Yes & Peter Garbriel where the stage actually rotated. No such rotation here; just a stage in the center with arms or extensions like a cross. The video screens hung just above the band that made it difficult to view the band.
Sam presents some pressing human rights viewpoints in his music. Everything about this show was dark, like an intense political rally or protest. Lighten up Sam! A little bit goes a long way. I know we are going to hell in a bucket but at least, let us enjoy the ride.
